Miss Lacey is a bona fide national treasure. Like cream teas and making jokes about the royals, Mands is a much-loved British institution.

Her facials are so outstanding that I do ultimately insist that we stop flasettoing "Miss Beartzzz" and "Miss Laay-seee" at the top of our lungs and settle down to business. Swaddled in a feather duvet, tended with towelling mitts, the experience is fundamentally hands-on: a deep cleanse and rehydration followed by the most glorious facial massage. Naturally, there is a groaning waiting list. Proof of her top Brit status is the fact that legions of our most illustrious imports and exports flock to these shores to submit their faces to her care. Long before the lovely Gwyneth began applying hot cups to her back, she was an aficionado of Amanda's. Dashing Ralph Fiennes has dropped by for a facial. And, since her skincare was on tap for the cast of Ocean's Eleven, some small part of George Clooney's gorgeousness can be laid at her door.
